I was on my way upta camp this evening, when from a bridge afar I spotted some interesting blurry colors down by the riverfront (my prescription sunglasses are ancient). I turned around, found my way down, and much to my delight found this:

Kinja'd!!!

Unrestored (!) Opel GT

Kinja'd!!!

1969, single owner- it was his first new car, only driven in the summer, with roughly 150k on the clock. It was completely unrestored and clearly loved.

I’ve got some other photos, including an Austin 3000, a ‘56 Jaaaaaag, a decent Willys Jeep and a few... others. Unfortunately, internet speeds up here are crap. I’ll share when I’m able.

Bonus upload:

Kinja'd!!!

I was behind this Subaru GL10 on my way out. I’ve never seen one before- Internet or otherwise.

Love the Opel GT. It’s on my “soft” bucket list of cars to own in my lifetime.

My mom’s first wagon was an Opel in some shade of bright yellow. It wasn’t nearly as nice.

He showed me the headlights. That's a neat party trick.

With a resounding squeee-clunk when the cable was pulled.

those little cars feel like go-carts, even though they are 4 cylinders....... just about everyone that has one, has two more in parts.........

I was surprised how small it was. It looks like a blast to drive. Curb weight was listed at just over 2000 lbs.

when those little engines are right, they are downright peppy..... having worked on the brakes, i can tell you they are not quite as good as a go cart. not to mention you are sitting very nearly on the ground. leaning on the drivers’ door you can touch the other outside edge...... fun little cars

and at 2000 lbs fully dressed, they are an easy push when things DO go wrong..

I got the impression that he doesn’t really wring it out due to concern for belts, hoses, bushings, etc. The tires were last new in 1987. I guess that’s one factor of why it’s in such good condition today.

yeah, those cars are very under-appreciated. even in mint condition like it is there, they dont bring much. its a shame really......

the fun in those, is getting to drive them, everywhere

I almost got an Opel GT, and almost got a MGB GT, but I ended up with the 240Z. I saw one in Europe with the aluminum Rover/Buick V8, crazy. I was seriously into getting one, the main USA parts guy is in CA and had spare bodies. I was going to make a Conrero GT clone, I like them much better with the flares:
